Coconut shell dryer
A coconut shell dryer is a drum dryer designed to remove moisture from coconut shells. Hot air enters the drum and exchanges moisture with the coconut shells, drying the shells.
A coconut shell dryer consists of a drum body, a lifting plate, a hot air furnace, a feeding and discharging system, a dust removal system, a power and transmission system, and an intelligent control system.
After drying, the coconut shells can be used as raw materials for the production of activated carbon or organic fertilizer.
Our coconut shell dryer uses a drum design. The drying principle involves hot air entering the dryer to dry the coconut shells, enabling large-scale drying.
Loading: Coconut shells (crushed coconut shells) are loaded into the dryer using an automatic loader. Loading ensures uniformity and is then fed directly into the dryer drum.Drying: The coconut shells are dried in the drum. The drum begins to rotate, and a lifting plate inside the dryer lifts the coconut shells, ensuring they are fully exposed to the hot air for drying. While the coconut shells are drying, the dust collector also begins operating to collect moisture and dust. The entire drying process is PLC-controlled, including parameters such as temperature and speed.
Discharging: After drying, the coconut shells are automatically discharged and sent to the next process via a conveyor.

Why are coconut shells crushed during drying?
- To improve drying efficiency. Coconut shells are not only large but also hollow inside. Feeding the dryer whole will reduce drying efficiency.
- Incomplete drying. Coconut shells are relatively thick. If dried whole, the shells will dry out or even carbonize, while the moisture content inside remains high. Crushing the coconut shells allows both the inside and outside of the shell to be dried.
- To facilitate subsequent processing. Currently, coconut shell drying is primarily used to make activated carbon and pellets.
Crushing coconut shells early on eliminates the need for further crushing during later processing, improving processing efficiency.

- Maintain stable drying control of the coconut shells. Coconut shells are organic matter and contain a large amount of carbon. Coconut shell hairs are found on the surface. Excessive temperatures can easily cause carbonization. The coconut shell drying temperature is generally set at around 200°C.

- Load the coconut shells evenly. Even loading ensures uniform drying and achieves excellent drying results. Uneven loading can easily result in dead spots or overdrying of some materials.
